Existence of multiple solutions for Sturm-Liouville boundary value problems
In this paper, based on variational methods and critical point theory, we guarantee the existence of infinitely many classical solutions for a two-point boundary value problem with fourth-order Sturm-Liouville equation; Some recent results are improved and by presenting one example, we ensure the applicability of our results.
متن کاملLecture 28: Sturm-Liouville Boundary Value Problems
In this lecture we abstract the eigenvalue problems that we have found so useful thus far for solving the PDEs to a general class of boundary value problems that share a common set of properties. The so-called Sturm-Liouville Problems define a class of eigenvalue problems, which include many of the previous problems as special cases. The S − L Problem helps to identify those assumptions that ar...
متن کاملEigenvalues of Sturm-liouville Problems with Discontinuous Boundary Conditions
For classical regular two-point self-adjoint Sturm-Liouville problems (SLP) the dependence of the eigenvalues on the boundary conditions is well understood because of some surprisingly recent results. Recently there has been a lot of interest in problems with discontinuous boundary conditions. Such conditions are known by various names including transmission conditions, interface conditions, po...
متن کاملDependence of eigenvalues of Sturm-Liouville problems
The eigenvalues of Sturm-Liouville (SL) problems depend not only continuously but smoothly on boundary points. The derivative of the nth eigenvalue as a function of an endpoint satisfies a first order differential equation. This for arbitrary (separated or coupled) self-adjoint regular boundary conditions. In addition, as the length of the interval shrinks to zero all higher eigenvalues march o...
متن کاملComputing Eigenvalues of Singular Sturm-Liouville Problems
We describe a new algorithm to compute the eigenvalues of singular Sturm-Liouville problems with separated self-adjoint boundary conditions for both the limit-circle nonoscillatory and oscillatory cases. Also described is a numerical code implementing this algorithm and how it compares with SLEIGN. The latter is the only effective general purpose software available for the computation of the ei...
